In order to make a hole in the wall tiles, we first need to decide its co-ordinates, and mark
them on the back of the tile.
As tiles are a wall covering, we shall make the hole with a Widia bit, using a RUBI
hand drill. Initially we need to fit the adaptor to it to be able to position it in the RUBI TR-600
machine. Then we position the Widia bit, 35 mm in diameter, in the thread. This thread is the same
for all the RUBI bits.
We position the manual drill between the guides using the housings provided for this. Then we
position the tile in the machine in such a way that the hole which is going to be made is perfectly
centred on the bit. (To position it, we can use the linear movement of the drill and the transverse
movement of the tile.) Then we firmly hold the drill by the lever and at the same time hold the tile, with
the help of the lateral stop.
We start the hole with a continuous and smooth rotation until the tile is completely marked. We then
continue, applying some pressure, until we touch the glaze, but without breaking it.
In this case, as the hole to be made in the tile is semi-circular, we should start by drilling very gently
until the semi-circle has been completely marked, then finish in a normal way.
We then remove the tile from the machine, and knock the centre of the circle on the glazed side to
make the interior piece drop out. By tapping lightly, we round off the hole so that it is neatly finished.
Laying the tile with the hole is straightforward. We need to check that when we lay it on the wall it does
not obstruct the correct installation of the water and electricity connections.
Direct measurement of the position of the hole.
We can use a metal object, such as a hammer, to knock out the scored area of tile.
