Another type of special cut which we should know how to make is a square hole for a valve box or electricity switches. These cuts are made using the upper part of the disk, removing the protector and then cutting by hand. At first it can appear difficult, but it is easy to pick up.

When we use electric machines that are water cooled it is important to mark the tile with a felt-tip pen or a pencil which is water resistant and which leaves a removeable mark.

Another way of marking the tile is by scoring it with a scoring wheel from the manually operated machine, exactly over the line which we have previously marked with an ordinary felt-tip pen. When the tile comes into contact with water the pen line will disappear, but the line made by the scoring wheel will remain.

After this operation, the tile will go into position snugly, as the cut is very exact, and the switch will fit perfectly.

We should check the alignment and verticality of the tile whenever we can, comparing it with the maximum number of tiles possible to make the check as reliable as possible.

Making a square hole.

Now the other upper tiles can be laid without problems, until we reach the desired height. If necessary (which is not in this case) we can use a trestle which is wide and strong enough to stand on safely.
