We start applying the jointing mortar to the tiling at the top and move down, spreading it with a rubber squeegee. This introduces the mixture into the gap with sufficient body and deeply enough so that it does not fracture. We need to press sufficiently on the squeegee so that the material flows along the joint, occupying all the empty space. We use the squeegee diagonally across the joint so that we do not remove material.

We need to be very careful as we apply the jointing mortar so that all the spacing is completely covered. It is not advisable to carry out later repairs, especially if the mortar has already set, as if we have to apply a second layer this will not have sufficient consistency.

When we apply the jointing mortar, we normally have to fill up to the end of the bull nose of the glaze, making sure that this is the same across the whole surface. We also need to ensure that the cross-head spacers are completely covered, and if necessary remove those that are not.

The jointing should be cleaned immediately after application, as it sets very rapidly. When we clean, we need to ensure that we do not remove the mortar from the joint.
