To joint the floor, we prepare the jointing mortar as explained before for the wall tiling. We can apply
the mixture using a rubber squeegee or with a jointing mortar applicator.
If we want to achieve a good fill with thick joints (from 3 mm) it is advisable to make a first lengthwise
pass and then another diagonal pass.
With joint diameters greater than 5 mm it is better to use a hard rubbrer squeegee so as not to empty
the spacing, if too great a pressure were to be applied. A regular application will then be achieved.
By using the JOINT MORTAR APPLICATOR we can achieve a perfect fill and avoid too many
smudges on the floor.
To adjust the nozzle to the thickness of the jointing it is sufficient to cut the end with a cutter (angle of
about 45°). Then the thickness of the nozzle will be the same as that of the joint.
With a bit of practice we can pick up speed at jointing and obtain perfect results. At first it will be
necessary to go over some areas with the rubber squeegee, especially the intersections, where
there is often excess jointing.
First step: lengthwise pass.
Second step: diagonal pass.
Going over the joint is not a problem if we use a RUBI
jointing cleaner such as the SPOMATIC-500. This machine can be used after application with the
rubber squeegee, always across the diagonal, and when the jointing is touchdry. The SPOMATIC-500
will leave the jointing at the desired level, between 0 and 3 mm, and will also leave the tiles
completely clean.
